ISLAMABAD, April 30: The Lahore High Court, Rawalpindi bench, on Wednesday dismissed a petition seeking hearing of an appeal against an order of the Gilgit Chief Court, observing that its jurisdiction did not extend to the Northern Areas.

Northern Areas Trading Corporation General Manager Pervez Iqbal, in his petition, had requested the LHC to hear his appeal against a decision of the chief court.

Mr Iqbal was convicted by an accountability court in the Northern Areas and awarded life imprisonment and Rs300 million fine.

When he filed an appeal, the chief court upheld his conviction but reduced his punishment to four years imprisonment. The fine was also reduced.
