PESHAWAR, April 30: The city police have arrested an alleged member of a gang of kidnappers while four of his accomplices fled after seeing a police squad at Jany Mor on the Kohat Road late Tuesday night.

The city police set up a picket at Jany Mor on the Kohat Road after receiving reports of mounting kidnapping cases in the area by members of Siayal and Mujahid groups.

At 10pm on Tuesday, four alleged kidnappers, who were in the hunt for some victims near Jany Mor, tried to flee from the area after seeing the police. However, one of the kidnappers, Said Irshad alias Arshad, a resident of Alam Gudar, Bara, was arrested, while four of his accomplices escaped from the area.

The police also seized a Kalashnikov, two Russian-made hand-grenades and 120 rounds of bullets from Said Irshad. The accused also disclosed names of their accomplices who escaped from the area. They have been identified as Mujahid, Siayal, Sadiq and Haji Gul.

Police have registered an FIR and are investigating.
