Railways and Army win openers

LAHORE, April 29: Hosts Railways and Army fashioned out victories on the opening day of the 43rd national basketball championship at Railways stadium on Monday night here.

Railways outplayed Police 83-52 having led 37-33 at half time. Allah Buksh (34) who played a dominating role in teams success exhibiting all round performance. Nawaz (18) Azhar (13) and Shahzad (5) supported Allah Buksh. Anthony (16) Azmat (14) and Yasin (12) shone from Police.

Army made short work of Navy 69-18 in a one-sided affair. Major Saleem and Pervez each scored 10 points as joint top scorers from Army whose other notable contributor was Mudassar (10).

Navy main scorers were Shafi (6), Umer (5) and Mustafa (4).—APP
