KARACHI, April 29: The Sindh Ombudsman, Justice (Retd) Haziq-ul-Khairi, exercising his suo moto powers in continuation of his order passed on Jan 25 and 26, named a two-member commission for illegal detentions in Sindh.

According to an official hand-out issued here on Tuesday, the members of commission are: Abdul Matin Khan and Iqbal Hussain Rizvi, advisors to the provincial ombudsman.

The commission is empowered to raid police stations, lockups and other facilities administered by Sindh police besides surprise raids to ascertain that whether any person is unlawfully detained by the police, and whether any violation of human rights was being committed.

MDA: Sindh Ombudsman Justice (Retd) Haziq-ul-Khairi has directed the Malir Development Authority to return money to its allottees within two weeks.

Taking notice of the complaint that the MDA has stopped payment to the allottees who have chosen to redeem allotment, the Ombudsman warned that action would be taken if MDA failed to return earnest money to the allottees.

The MDA received 18,000 applications from allottees, out of which 10,473 got their money returned. A total of 7,257 allottees are waiting for the return of their hard-earned money invested by them in the New Malir Housing Scheme, Malir, Karachi.—APP
