KARACHI, April 29: Fifteen accused, including the widow of a senior journalist, facing charges in a Rs3.5 billion Alliance Motors scam were remanded to jail custody on Tuesday by an accountability court.

The accused, arrested by the National Accountability Bureau, were produced before Judge Qaiser Iqbal of the AC-1, who sent them to jail and ordered their production on May 3.

Investigation officer Ghulam Asghar Jatoi also submitted a final charge-sheet in the reference, filed for recovering properties from the beneficiaries.

A final reference against the prime accused in the scam is yet to be filed.

According to NAB authorities, 13 accused were arrested in Karachi. They included Dawood Jat, Syed Mohammed Ajmal Mehmoodi, his wife Ghausia Mehmoodi, Mirza Ashfaq Ahmed, his wife Farida Begum, Shamim Aleemuddin, Sabina Farooq, Kulsomm Ibrahim, Ashraf Suleman, Malik Mohammed Sultan, Shaikh Maqbool Ahmed and Dr Abdur Rahman Rajput.

They said as per record the arrested accused were in illegal possession of the properties of the Alliance Motors and T J Ibrahim, which, as a matter of fact, belonged to the affectees of the scam.
