ISLAMABAD, Dec 8: Special envoy to Libyan president and president of Qadhafi International Foundation for Charity Associations (QIFCA), Saif El Islam on Saturday demanded general amnesty for the innocent Arabs at present stuck up in Afghanistan.

Speaking at a press conference here, he demanded that Taliban leader Mulla Omar and Osama bin Laden be tried in the International Court of Justice.

Answering to a question about asylum of Osama and Al-Qaeda leaders in any country including Libya, he said these people had been declared terrorists by the international community, including the Arab world, so there was no question of any leniency being shown to them.

Pakistan government has been asked to make arrangement for the release of Arabs nationals, their children and women who have no concern with Al-Qaeda and Osama, he said. “President Musharraf has given us assurance that the government of Pakistan would do its utmost for the early exit of innocent Arabs from Afghanistan,” he said.

He said there was no established government in Afghanistan, with different tribes ruling in their own areas, some of whom having fraternal relations with Pakistani government.

“Therefore we are hopeful that Pakistan can play a key role in repatriation of Arabs.”

Mr Islam said he was demanding amnesty on humanitarian grounds and with a view to avoiding any other Qila-i-Jangi-like massacre in the future.

He said most of the Arabs stranded in Afghanistan had taken part in Afghanistan-Russia war and since that time they were residing there.

The president of the QIFCA said they had urged the international community, the UN, International Commission of Red Cross and other international organisations to expedite their efforts for the release of Arab nationals.

To a question about his recent visit to India, he said it was aimed at the welfare of Muslims in India. “Representatives of our organisation visit any of the Muslim countries in the month of Ramazan to provide some assistance and help to the Muslim brothers. The purpose of my visit to India was also the same,” he added.

Mr Islam said efforts of his organisation were not only geared towards getting Arab nationals released but also others, like Chechens and Pakistanis, etc. He said the QIFCA had announced a relief package of $2 million for the war victims. He said a convoy of nine trucks carrying blankets, rice, dates, etc, was on its way to Afghanistan.
