PESHAWAR, April 25: National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) and Pakistan Ordnance Factory (POF), Wah booked places into the semi- finals after registering victories in the All-Pakistan Tariq Memorial hockey tournament being played at S.M. Lala Ayub Hockey Stadium here on Friday.
NBP, led by current Pakistan team coach Tahir Zaman, faced a tough task before edging past strong Pakistan Army by 2-1 in the thrilling encounter while POF Wah beat Police by 4-1 in a one- sided affairs.
After the goalless first half, NBP first got the lead through Muhammad Anees on the field attempt but Army four minutes later Army levelled the tally 1-1 when Imran converted a penalty stroke.
Tahir Zaman scored the decisive goal in the 67 minutes on the field attempt.
In the second match POF Wah defeated veteran Police team by 4-1 in one-sided affairs as the former fully dominated the proceedings and never allowed the rivals to play with free hands.
For POF Wah Naseer Junior scored two field goals in the 14 and 34 minutes while inside right Shahzad slammed in twice in the 60th and 64th minute to make it 4-1. It was in the dying moments of the match Police reduced the margin through Shahbaz Ahmed. The match was supervised by Ihsan Babar and M.A. Dar.
After the rest-day today (Saturday) PIA will clash against POF Wah in the first semifinal and PAF will face NBP in the second semifinal on Sunday (April 27). The final of the tournament will be played on April 28.—APP
