CII holds workshop on Riba

ISLAMABAD, June 2 The Council of Islamic Ideology organised a two-day workshop on Riba and Islamic Banking.

Speaking at the inaugural session, the CII chairman, Dr Mohammad Khalid Masud, said that under its efforts to harmonize laws of the country in accordance with the Quran and Sunnah, the council published report on Interest Free Banking in 1980 and once again the council was providing a platform to Ulema and intellectuals to review the intellectual and practical issues and progress regarding the issue of Riba and interest.

Dr Farooq Khan said that the real cause of prohibition of Riba is injustice, exploitation and the social unevenness on the basis of wealth.

Dr Mohsin Muzaffar Naqvi described in detail the opinion of Ibne Aashoor on Riba and objectives of Shariah.

Recommendations of the two-day deliberations would be complied in the light of unanimous views of Ulema at the end of workshop. The workshop will continue on Thursday.

Prominent Ulema, who participated in the debate included Mufti Abdul Majeed Din Puri, Maulana Zahid-ur-Rashdi, Maulana Ahmad Ali Siddique, Prof Dr Shakil Auj, Mufti Bilal, Maulana Shabbir Hussain Lakhani, Mufti Zahid Athri, Allama Riaz Hussain Naqvi and Maulana Raghib Naeemi.
