DERA GHAZI KHAN, April 25: There was no clue to the minor boy kidnapped by a housemaid even after two days of the incident.

Hamza Usman, 6, went missing after returning to his home from school at around 2pm on April 23.

His family told Dawn that housemaid Shahnaz was with the child. The maid, around 30 years of age, had been employed about a week ago.

They said the maid left the house before scheduled time and did not return.

The family did not know the whereabouts of the maid, who gave them her two names — Shahnaz or Mukhtiar.

Hamza is the nephew of former president of Mulatn Press Club Masihullah Jampuri and Rawalpindi anti-corruption court judge Muhammed Aslam.

When contacted, Dera DIG said police would soon recover the boy.

Hydel projects: Provincial Irrigation Minister Aamir Sultan Cheema has said hydel power projects will be set up in the private sector at all barrages of the Punjab.

Talking to newsmen here on Friday, he said Kalabagh dam had been politicized. The government was trying to reach a consensus on the issue, he added.

He expressed the hope that the government would succeed in its efforts.

Mr Cheema said the irrigation department had prepared feasibility reports for the construction of 31 small dams as large dams were not possible because the province mostly comprised of plain area.

He said the irrigation department would not take over recently constructed Chashma Right Bank Canal.

The project was completed by Wapda in 20 years at a cost of Rs14 billion.

Earlier, addressing the youth of the area, Mr Cheema said the ban on fresh recruitments would be lifted soon.
