HYDERABAD, April 25: Solving workers’ problems and raising their standard of living is necessary for the progress of the country.

This was said by one of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement MPAs, Arshad Shah, while speaking at a rally of HDA employees held here to mark the victory of their CBA union in the referendum.

Sources said that the Muttahida had influenced the outcome of the referendum.

Provincial minister Naeem Ishtiaq, MPAs Aslam Pervez and Ms Farzana, members of zonal committee and other Muttahida leaders were also present on the occasion.

Congratulating the CBA officials on their victory, Mr Shah said that exploitative forces could be defeated only through unity and sincerity of purpose.

STUDENTS ALLIANCE: The activists of the Sindh Students Alliance, a conglomerate of nine students’ organizations, held a token hunger strike outside the Hyderabad Press Club on Thursday in protest against the Model University Ordinance.

They were also protesting against the exorbitant increase in fees, deployment of Rangers at educational institutions, privatization of educational institutions and ban on students’ unions.
