KARACHI, Aug 29 There is nothing in the Supreme Court judgment of July 31 to bar the superior court judges, who took the oath after Nov 3, 2007, from being considered for fresh appointment, Sindh Bar Council member and former Sindh High Court Bar Association president Abrar Hasan and SBC members Mustafa Lakhani and Saathi M. Ishaque said on Saturday.

Their case was no different from that of Justice Syed Zahid Hussain of the Supreme Court or of Chief Justice Agha Rafiq Ahmad Khan of the Federal Shariat Court, they pointed out in a press statement.

They said the exit of about 20 judges from the Sindh High Court had resulted in a breakdown of the daily court work. The lawyers and litigants were facing great difficulties because of the shortage of judges and the court should not be deprived of the services of experienced, competent and honest judges, they added.

The Bar representatives called upon the advocate-general to convene an emergency meeting of the Sindh Bar Council in his capacity as ex officio chairman of the SBC to consider the situation and complaints of nepotism and favouritism.
