MIRPURKHAS, April 21: The Pakistan People’s Party has said the Sindh government has no authority to give a go-ahead signal to the Thal Canal as the opposition to the controversial canal has been recorded by Sindh Assembly unanimously.

Member of National Assembly Nawab Mohammad Yousuf Talpur, has reacted to a statement of the Chief Minister Ali Mohammad Mahar about Thal Canal. “Chief Minister has no authority to barter away the interests of Sindh against the will of Sindh Assembly to save his own chair,” he said in a statement on Monday.

The central executive committee member the party said the people of Sindh were united on the issue of Thal Canal because the proposed canal was going to devastate the agriculture future of Sindh.

The PPP leader said the chief minister’s remarks had come in the wake of a statement of Wapda chairman Zulfiqar Ali Khan who equated Rainee Canal with Thal Canal.

Mr Talpur made it clear that his party would never allow anybody to compromise the interests of Sindh for political interests.
