KARACHI, Nov 12 Three people, including a 35-year-old worker of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement, were killed in different parts of the city on Wednesday, police and witnesses said.

They said tension and fear gripped parts of Orangi Town following the killing of the Muttahida worker, Mohammed Akram, son of Abdul Majeed, in an attack at around 4pm.

The witnesses said the victim was at his internet café, situated on the ground floor of his residence near Sadaf Chowk in Sector 10, when the unidentified occupants of a car opened fire on him.

They said the victim died instantly and two others - a cousin and an employee of the victim - received bullet wounds.

The dead and the injured were taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where the Muttahida worker was pronounced dead on arrival.

Sources at the hospital's medico-legal section told Dawn that the victim had received three bullets in his upper torso. The injured, identified as Mohammed Imran and Sakhawat, were stated to be in a stable condition.

Imran, the victim's cousin, is reportedly a unit head of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement in Surjani Town.

The witnesses said the two occupants of the car got down and asked the victim if he was Akram. They said the attackers opened fire as the victim nodded in affirmation.

They said the enraged residents took to the streets and pelted vehicular traffic with stones.

The witnesses said unruly youths also burned old tyres at Faqir Colony.

They said later a heavy contingent of police and Rangers reached the affected area and controlled the situation.

The Mominabad police said that no case had been registered till late as the victim's family members were busy in the funeral.
