KOHAT, Oct 2: The Chairman of Mushtarika Markets Association, Haji Gulzar, has demanded of the NWFP governor to provide police with all necessary facilities so that it could take effective steps to check growing incidents of crimes.
Speaking at a press conference here on Tuesday, Haji Gulzar said that police should be provided with vehicles, wireless system and required number of manpower in the wake of increasing incidents of crimes committed by the proclaimed offenders hiding in the nearby mountains in the tribal areas which are impossible to control with the available resources.
He lauded the efforts of the Kohat police in nabbing the culprits involved in the dacoity at the house of President of Miankhel Bazaar Union and the killer of another trader.
Haji Gulzar said some sinister elements were trying to create misunderstanding between traders and the district administration for their ulterior motives and have launched a smear campaign against the police.
He said question of sending complaints to the governor about the police performance did not arise at all because the law and order situation in Kohat was normal and improved a lot during the last six months.
WATER SHORTAGE: Acute water shortage has hit many areas of the Kohat district including Gumbat, Shahpur, Hangu road, Rawalpindi road, Tappi and Kharmatu.
The residents of these areas have complained that the problem had been persisting for the last one year but the public health engineering department had done nothing to improve the situation either by installing heavy duty pumps, repair the faulty ones or carry out deep boring as the sub-soil water level had dropped by more than 20 feet due to drought.
