KARACHI, Oct 26 Two suspected dacoits were beaten to death by people in Orangi Town shortly after midnight on Sunday, police and witnesses said.

They said the suspects were caught by the people when the motorcycle they had just snatched from a victim skidded and hit the pavement.

The witnesses said the people gave a hiding to the suspected dacoits. One of them died on the spot before police could arrive. The Pakistan Bazaar police said that 25-year-old Mohammed Arman, a resident of Raees Amrohi Colony, was waylaid by three dacoits near his house on Sunday night.

They said the bandits snatched Rs700 and a motorcycle from Arman who raised an alarm as the dacoits left on the snatched motorbike.

The police said that the bandits panicked and their bike went out of control and rammed into the pavement. Two dacoits were wounded in the accident and were caught by the people, while the third escaped.

The police said that one of the bandits was killed and the other one was fatally wounded as the enraged people beat them up before the arrival of police.

Police shifted the body and the wounded bandit to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital in a Chhipa ambulance.

However, the police said, the wounded suspect had died on his way to hospital. They said a pistol was also seized from the spot.

Sources at the hospital's medico-legal section told Dawn that both the suspects had received multiple fractures and died of brain congestion as a result of kicks and blows.

They said the suspects were in their mid 20s.

Later, the police shifted the bodies to the Edhi Morgue as the deceased remained unidentified.

The police registered a case (FIR No433/20) against the absconding dacoit under Sections 392 and 34 of the PPC on the complaint of the victim.
