LAHORE, April 19: The Lahore Winter Meetings held under the auspices of the Lahore Race Club (LRC) culminate in the running of last edition at the Racecourse on Sunday.

The 28-meetings programme began in early September last year with the holding of six cups named after the recipients of the country’s highest gallantry award, Nishan-i-Haider and is ending on a silent note with a six-event card drawn for April 20.

The feature event, Muridke Plate for class IV division I, to be run over the middle distance of 1400 metres has a small but prominent field of seven runners, including three imported ones.

Imported three-year-old chestnut filly, Laser Lass, who gained an easy success in the Ginza Cup run over 1200 metres last Sunday is being fancied to make it two in-a-row in the feature event.

Laser Lass, a progeny of Irish sire Air Royal out-of- Lingdale Lass, a British mare is in an emphatic form. She is being trained by veteran Haji Ghulam Sarwar. Her stablemate Aegean Daisy, also imported four-year-old filly should grab the second spot.

A card of six events will be down for decision in the afternoon. Two events will be contested over 1400 metres while the other four will be gone over the sprinting distance of 1000 metres. The fields are thin comprising seven to eleven runners barring last-minute withdrawals.

Meanwhile the LRC has directed all riders to get their weights checked one-hour before the start of first race which will begin at 2.30pm.
