MIRPURKHAS, April 18: The shortage of irrigation water in the Nara Canal, persisting for the past four years, has affected the financial position of growers but a desilting campaign is now under way to overcome the problems of growers at the canal’s tail-end.

This was stated by the acting governor of Sindh, Syed Muzaffar Hussain Shah, while speaking at an open Kutchehry at Samaro town on Friday.

He expressed the hope that the shortage of irrigation water would be overcome after the desilting of channels, and said that the recovery of Abiyana and Dhal had been postponed in areas of the district, which had been notified as being calamity hit by the Sindh government, till April 31.

Referring to the issue of restoring the district status of Umerkot, he said a committee had been constituted in this regard and the Sindh cabinet would consider the matter after receiving its report.

Talking about the rumours of differences between parties constituting the SIndh government, he said that there were no differences between the coalition partners.

The Sindh government, he said, was planning to lift ban on recruitment, adding that it was aware of the problems faced by the common man.

INJURED: One person, Abdul Waheed, was injured on Thursday after being attacked by Abdul Hameed and others in Hirabad.

The attack was said to be motivated by an old enmity.

DEMO: Lawyers, responding to the call of the local district Bar association, on Friday staged a demonstration against the killing of a lawyers in the premises of the Sindh High Court in Karachi.

Protesters, led by president of the district Bar association, Mirpurkhas, Shamsuddin Shaikh, demanded of the government to provide adequate security to the members of the legal community, including lawyers, specially in court premises.
