ISLAMABAD Pakistan on Tuesday condemned the terrorist attack on the Sri Lankan cricket team in Lahore saying it was perpetrated by enemies of Pakistan and Sri Lanka.

A full investigation is being carried out into the attack and the perpetrators of this heinous crime would be given exemplary punishment, Foreign Office Spokesman Abdul Basit said in a statement.

A special investigation team, he said, had been constituted for this purpose.

Pakistan, the spokesman said, greatly values its relations with Sri Lanka. Our two countries have maintained close, cordial and mutually supportive relationship which is based on mutual trust and interest in preserving regional peace, security and stability.

Meanwhile, a statement issued by the Sri Lankan High Commission in Islamabad said the government of Sri Lanka vehemently condemned the brutal terrorist attack on the Sri Lankan cricket team.

The Sri Lanka government, it said, while expressing its deep concern for the safety and well being of its national cricket team, conveyed its profound condolences to the families of the security personnel who were killed in this terrorist outrage.

Sri Lanka, the high commission said, was confident that the Pakistan government would do its utmost to apprehend and bring to justice the perpetrators of this dastardly attack.
