PESHAWAR The Peshawar High Court (PHC) on Tuesday decided power tariff determination case in favour of the Peshawar Electricity Supply Company (Pesco).
The court also ejected stay order already granted in this regard and ordered to enforce the enhanced rates of power from the concerned dates.
According to details, the federal government enhanced electricity power tariff three times from Sept 2008 which were implemented throughout the country but the NWFP government filed a case against the enhancement as a result the enhanced rates were not implemented in the province.
Electricity consumers in the province continued to pay bills at old rates. The case remained under process for about 13 months.
The court decided the case in favour of the Pesco and permitted the company to enforce the enhanced rates from backdates.
Pesco has decided for the convenience of general public to collect arrears of the enhancement in 15 monthly instalments from private consumers instead of lump sum payment in addition to their monthly actual electricity consumption bills.
Government departments will have to pay their enhanced electricity arrears along with the forthcoming bill. Separate electricity bills have been issued to the departments. The consumers have requested to extend cooperation regarding early payment of the arrears.—APP
