SHEIKHUPURA, April 15: Local District and Sessions Judge Talib Husain Baloch ordered on Tuesday registration of a case against 41 policemen, including a DSP, and three other people for killing three men in a fake encounter 18 months ago.

The inquiry conducted by civil judge Kamran Basharat Mufti was completed after 18 months. Deceased Faiz Rasool’s brother-in-law Shahbaz Warraich filed a petition with court on Sept 28, 2001.

The petitioner said the Sheikhupura police had killed his brother-in law Faiz, who was elected general councillor. He added that Faiz was already in the police custody, but the police killed him in the name of an encounter. The shootout took place at Warah Lakh Singh village in Sangla Saddar police precinct.

Two proclaimed offenders Waheed alias Kaka and Ilyas Buttar, who the police claimed had killed 68 people, including some policemen, were also killed in the encounter.

The civil judge conducted an inquiry and found that the shootout was fake. Receiving the report, the judge has ordered the SSP to register a case against 41 police officials, including DSP Ghulam Qasim Khan Niazi, and three other people. He has also directed him to submit a copy of the FIR.

ARRESTED: The district police claimed on Tuesday to have held 23 proclaimed offenders and two court absconders with arms and booty worth Rs4 million during the last month.
