QUETTA, April 15: A tribal Jirga on Tuesday demanded that the provincial assembly should ban the business of giving loans on interest in the province.

The Jirga, presided over by the chief of the Kakar tribe, Nawab Ayaz Khan Jogezai, decided the borrowers should not pay the interest on the loans and offered them protection. It decided that payment of instalments of the loans should be deferred for the time being.

It decided to ensure the return of the ownership of the properties which the borrowers were forced to transfer to those running the business.

The Jirga determined that the recovery mafia would not be allowed to forcibly transfer the ownership of property or snatch vehicles. It formed a committee to contact the affected people and settle their disputes.
