HYDERABAD, April 13: Over 100 devotees of the Lawari shrine held a demonstration outside the press club here on Sunday to press the authorities to initiate an investigation into two recent murders.

Speaking at the demonstration, Akhtar Hussain Talpur, Qaimuddin Shah and others accused the Badin administration of adopting a partisan attitude in the matter.

They said a few days back a murderous attack was made on the life of Karim Bux Bagrani by the rival group but the police had not arrested the accused despite the registration of an FIR. The rival group had also torched sugarcane crop, they added.

They claimed Ali Mardan Chandio was killed in a clash between members of the rival groups a couple of months back but innocent people were arrested in the case.

They said Ghaus Bux Talpur, who belonged to the opposite group, was murdered in Defence, Karachi, on April 5 but the police had not arrested the culprits.

They demanded of federal and Sindh governments to remove the DPO, Badin, and ensure a transparent investigation into the matter.

Uplift works: A meeting was held at the circuit house here on Saturday to review development works being carried out in the district.

The financial adviser to the Sindh chief minister, Aftab Ahmad Shaikh, who presided over the meeting, was briefed about the progress of development schemes by officials concerned.

Mr Shaikh said the federal government would be approached for funds to resolve problems of water supply, sewerage system and roads.

He directed the officials concerned to prepare feasibility reports and estimates of expenditure in this regard.

He told the DCO to approach the private sector to help complete development schemes with a view to providing maximum facilities to people.
