CHAKWAL, July 22 As the crisis over legislators' fake degrees deepens, another PML-N parliamentarian has confessed that he had only passed FA examination and his graduation degree was counterfeit.

Sardar Mohammad Faiz Tamman, who quit his National Assembly seat on July 2, accusing Sharif brothers of cold-shouldering him, said in the nomination papers he submitted to contest by-election for NA-61, Chakwal II, seat that his academic qualification was only intermediate.

A photocopy of nomination papers available with Dawn belies his earlier claim over his resignation because it carries the following statement in Urdu by Mr Tamman “Meri taleemi qabliat FA hai (My academic qualification is FA)”.

This suggests that Mr Tamman had resigned to save himself from humiliation because of his fake degree which was being scrutinised by the Higher Education Commission. However, this sense of guilt did not deter the Sardar of Talagang to be again an aspirant in the by-election for the seat he had recently resigned.

Mr Tamman was elected an MNA on a fake degree in 2002 elections as an independent candidate, but later joined the PML-Q. He switched loyalties, got a PML-N ticket and won the same seat in 2008 elections.

In 2008 elections contesting against former chief minister Pervez Ilahi, he used the 'Talagang card' by raising the slogan, “Jag Talagang jag, Teri pag gai ayy Gujarat (Wake up o Talagang, otherwise your turban would go to Gujrat).”

The general perception prevalent about him among the people of his constituency is that he has been badly failed to deliver during his long stay in the corridor of powers.

“He has cheated not only us but the whole nation too,” Nisar Ahmad, one of Mr Tamman's voters, said in a furious tone. “He should be brought to the book,” he added.
