PESHAWAR, May 27 The Emergency Response Unit (ERU) is arranging separate communions for men and women to help them overcome trauma and psychological problems due to displacement.
A press release said the ERU was setting up separate sheds for men and women in each relief camp set up for internally displaced people to provide them a platform to get together and provide each other with solace.
Provincial Relief Commissioner and in-charge of ERU Mohammad Azam Khan expressed his resolve to make every effort to make the process of distribution of relief goods among displaced people of the Malakand division and tribal areas transparent.
“We have made all our accounts available online through ERU website “http//www.helpidp.org” and anyone can check it anytime,” he said in a statement issued here on Wednesday.
He said food items were distributed among IDPs through the World Food Programme and non-food items through the UNHCR to ensure credibility in its distribution.
He said the government had made different arrangements for immediate provision of food items and other facilities to the uprooted people living in camps in Swabi, Mardan, Charsadda, Nowshera and Peshawar.
To alleviate people's suffering during the prevailing heat spell, Mr Azam said 20 transformers and as many generators had been provided to the camps and efforts were underway to ensure provision of fans.
He said provision of milk for children would be ensured as the WFP consignment would arrive soon.
About security in camps, he said barbed wire would be erected around the settlements to prevent any illegal entry.
He conceded that establishment of a proper disaster management authority was needed in the province as the existing department was under-funded and understaffed.
