PESHAWAR, April 12: The lawyers’ forums affiliated with the Awami National Party (ANP), the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal (MMA) and the Pakistan Muslim League (Quaid-i-Azam) on Saturday formed an alliance for the annual election of the Peshawar High Court Bar Association.

The alliance announced its panel and named former ANP senator Qazi Mohammad Anwer for the post of president.

Other candidates of the alliance are: Shahabuddin Burq of the PML-Q for vice-president, Ghulam Nabi of the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal for general secretary, Iltaf Khan of the MMA for joint secretary, Habib Qureshi of the PML-Q for finance secretary, Younas Jan of the MMA for library secretary and Muneeb Khan of the PML-Q and Hamid Shehzad of the ANP for executive council members.

Negotiations are in progress between groups affiliated with the Pakistan People’s Party, the PPP (Sherpao), the PML (Nawaz) and the National Awami Party Pakistan.

The election will be held on April 26 and the last date for withdrawal of nomination papers is April 15.

For the post of president, 10 candidates, for vice-president, seven, and for general secretary, nine candidates have filed papers.
