Militants declare ceasefire

MIRAMSHAH, Aug 22 Local militants declared a unilateral ceasefire in North Waziristan's tribal region for 40 days out of respect for Ramazan, a spokesman said on Saturday.

Ahmadullah Ahmadi, a spokesman for Taliban Commander Hafiz Gul Bahadur, told journalists by phone that the ceasefire would be observed till 10 days after Eid. “The Taliban will not attack security forces during this period,” Ahmadi said. He said the decision had been taken to maintain the sanctity of the holy month.— Pazir Gul
