QUETTA, April 11: Balochistan Finance Minister Syed Ehsan Shah has said that a meeting of the National Finance Commission (NFC) will be held in Karachi on April 18-19 to discuss the new award for distribution of resources among federating units.

Talking to a group of newsmen here on Friday he said that representatives of provincial governments would review decisions and proposals of committees formed by the military government about the NFC award.

The minister held out an assurance that the provincial government would accept all those proposals which protected the just interests of all provinces besides ensuring that the distribution of resources redressed grievances of the people of Balochistan to overcome backwardness in the province.

Mr Shah reiterated that Balochistan did not agree to the formula of distribution of resources only on the basis of population and supported the stand of previous provincial governments demanding inclusion of backwardness in the distribution of resources.

Other sources said that Balochistan and Sindh representatives in the NFC meeting would take a joint stand on the fund distribution issue.
