PESHAWAR, Oct 13 Corps Commander Lt-Gen Asif Yasin Malik has said that security forces have not launched a new offensive against militants in Waziristan or any other area of Fata and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
“Presently no major operation is underway,” he said while talking to journalists after attending teachers' convention here on Wednesday. More than 400 teachers and educationists attended the event.
Gen Malik said that security forces were taking action against remnants of militants, who were trying to disturb law and order situation, in some areas.
He said that militant had grouped in Katlang area of Mardan district two days ago.
He said that militants were killed during search operation jointly conducted by army, Frontier Constabulary and police. To a query, he said that Chief of Army Staff Gen Ashfaq Parvez Kayani visited Kurram and Waziristan on Tuesday to inspect development projects and assess security situation in the tribal areas.
Regarding relief operation and rehabilitation works in the flood-hit areas of the province, Gen Malik said that the army would reconstruct 1,000 houses while over 1,000 partially damaged residential compounds would be repaired free of cost in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
He said that home appliances would also be provided to the affected families. Apart from this, he said, educational institutions and health centres would be also reconstructed.
Earlier, addressing the convention Gen Malik said that education was the only and important instrument for bringing change in society and teachers could play key role in this regard.
He said that teachers had certain obligations towards their students as they had to become role model for the future generations and had to be the torch bearers of morality.
Unfortunately, he said, objectives of education were diluted in the country.
