DHAKA, April 11: Yuvraj Singh’s maiden One-day International century set up a record 199-run win for India over Bangladesh in their opening triangular series encounter on Friday.

India’s bowlers found things as easy as the left-handed Singh after he had scored 102 from 85 deliveries out of a total of 276 all out. The 21-year-old, batting at five and who hit nine fours and four sixes, was making his 71st one-day appearance.

Bangladesh, in reply, slumped to 25 for four by the 10th over as right-arm medium bowler Avishkar Salvi, on his debut, and quick bowler Zaheer Khan both took two early wickets.

The home team were bowled out for 77 in 27.3 overs, Zaheer finishing with four for 19 from 7.3 overs and medium pacer Ajit Agarkar three for 18.

It was India’s best win by runs in a one-dayer and the second worst result ever suffered by Bangladesh.

They have not won in 33 one-day starts, a woeful run made up of 31 defeats and two washouts. This was also their ninth defeat in nine matches against the Indians and their lowest total against them.

Opening batsman Virender Sehwag had set India on their way with 63 off 51 balls. Several of India’s top players are not at the event after playing in the World Cup.

South Africa, the other team in the seven-match event, play India on Sunday.
