JACOBABAD, April 11: Several rallies were taken out on Friday in various cities, including Jacobabad, Shikarpur and Nawabshah, on the call of the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal to protest against the US-led invasion and occupation of Iraq.
In Jacobabad, the Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-F took out an anti-war rally from the Mauladad town.
Participants of the rally burnt effigies of US President George W. Bush and UK Prime Minister Tony Blair. They also staged a two-hour-long sit-in.
Speakers on the occasion urged the Muslim countries to devise a strategy to challenge the US hegemony and contain its expansionist designs.
SHIKARPUR: Activists of the local chapter of the Jamaat Ahl-e-Sunnat, Pakistan, took out a rally on Friday to protest against the US-led attack on Iraq.
The rally began from the Madressah Ghousia-Jilani and terminated at the Clock Tower, where it turned into a big demonstration.
Speakers, on the occasion, stressed the need for maintaining the territorial integrity of Iraq, opposed formation of a puppet regime in Baghdad and called for establishment of a government in accordance with the aspirations of the Iraqi people.
Protesters urged the US to vacate its troops from Iraq, saying the United Nation should intervene to contain the situation.
Meanwhile, an emergency meeting of the local district Bar association adopted a resolution, rejecting formation of a government led by a retired US army general in Iraq and described it as being violative of the human rights and the UN Charter.
NAWABSHAH: Several rallies, taken out by the MMA after the Friday prayers to condemn the US-led invasion of Iraq, converged at the Chakra Bazaar here.
Speakers criticized the US, saying it had crossed limits of international law and morality, adding that the Muslim countries should learn lessons by devastation of Baghdad.
