LAHORE Funeral of the seven policemen, who lost their lives in Manawan Police Training School in a terror attack on Monday, was carried out at Qilla Gujjar Singh Police Lines amid tight security.

Governor Salman Taseer, federal minister Mian Manzoor Wattoo, senior police officers and people from all walks of life attended the funeral.

The participants of the funeral were frisked and made to pass through walkthrough security gates to avoid any untoward situation. After the funeral, a police contingent paid tribute to the victims.

Governor Taseer announced Rs2 million for the families of each martyred policeman. He told reporters that families of the victims would be getting salaries and other perks till their retirement period.

Meanwhile, atmosphere at the training school remained tense and grief-stricken recruits spent their day awfully.

Police teams visited the scene to collect more evidence and also interrogate the recruits to reach a conclusion.

Chuhng Police Training School principal SSP Major Mubashirullah (retired) also visited the subsidiary institution of his school. Head-constable Mushtaq Ahmed, an instructor at the school, told Dawn that around 300 to 350 recruits and 10 to 12 instructors were present at the school while majority of them remained absent because of fear. He said routine exercises had come to a halt and were likely to be restored in a couple of days.

Ahmed said that some recruits even did not take their meal the whole day to mourn the killing of their colleagues.—Staff Reporter
