LAHORE, Oct 10: In compliance with the directives of the Punjab ombudsman, Lahore Development Authority has allowed extension in building period free of surcharge as it has failed to provide basic facilities in Block R-III of MA Johar Town Scheme.

Complainant Muhammad Anwar Mughal stated that he has been allotted plot No 331 and 332 in the scheme. He complained that the Land Development director of LDA has asked him to get extension in building period, on payment of surcharge, as the period initially allowed by the LDA has already expired.

The complainant contended that the LDA had not provided so far basic facilities in the R-III block. Therefore, according to policy, extension in building period should be allowed by the responded free of surcharge.

The ombudsman directed the Land Development director to process the complainant’s case in accordance with the law and fact at the site. He processed the case and allowed extension in building period up to June 23, 2002, free of surcharge in view of the fact that LDA so far has failed to provide basic facilities in the block.

POSSESSION DELIVERED: In another case, the LDA has delivered the possession of a plot to a complainant, Hafeez Haider, after seven years.

The complainant stated that a one-kanal plot was transferred in his name in January, 1994. He applied the LDA for acquiring its possession. He alleged that he ran from pillar to post for the redressal of his grievance, but to no avail.

In response to the query of the ombudsman, it was reported on behalf of the LDA that the complainant’s plot was encroached by someone and removal of the encroachment of the site was a herculean task. However, it was lately completed and possession of the plot was delivered to the complainant.
