PESHAWAR, April 8: Joint Action Committee on Tuesday observed black day at the University of Peshawar, rejecting the proposed Model Universities Ordinance.

The Joint Action Committee (JAC), representative body of the teachers, students, doctors and advocacy group, upon the call of its central chairman, observed black day at the University of Peshawar, University of Engineering and Technology, Agricultural University, Isla-mia College, and affiliated school.

They wore black arm-bands and raised slogans against the MUO.

Later, the protesters were addressed by the campus Nazim of the Islami Jamiat Talaba.

He said that the government was bent upon promulgating the MUO, to deprive the students of their right of getting education and placate the World Bank and the IMF.

He also rejected the ban on holding protest demonstrations at the campus by the administration, saying that nobody had the right to prevent students from holding demonstrations as it was their right.
