VEHARI, April 7: Three terrorists of the band Lashkar-i-Jhangvi were arrested by Vehari police here late Sunday night.
The police in its press release issued here on Monday said that Asghar alias Shahid, Khizar Abbas and Muhammad Zaman alias Qamar Zaman, all belonging to Mailsi, had been residing in a rented house at Muslim Town for the last few days.
Acting on a tip-off, Saddar police along with Elite Force headed by SHO Sardar Zafar Iqbal Dogar raided the house and arrested them without any resistance. It said the police also seized 61 detonators, 10 fuse bombs and six kilogramme bomb-making material.
According to police, these terrorists were close associates of LJ chief Riaz Basra who had been killed in police encounter last year in Mailsi. Police said the arrested terrorists wanted to kill Vehari DPO Syed Javed Hussain Shah in a suicide attack to take revenge of Riaz Basra. During investigation, they said that they had come to Vehari on the orders of acting LJ chief Nazir alias Usama.
It may be mentioned that the distance between the DPO office and Muslim Town is hardly 200 metres. A source said that these terrorists were arrested from Karampur in Mailsi suburbs about a week ago.
The police shifted the arrested terrorists to some unknown place for further investigation.
