DERA ISMAIL KHAN, April 6: Four people, including two policemen, were killed when some proclaimed offenders travelling in a pickup opened fire on a police party on the Dera-Bannu Road here on Sunday, sources said.

The sources said a pickup (5459-DIK) coming from Lakki Marwat was asked to stop by a police party at Chownda police post on the Dera-Bannu Road. The inmates of the vehicle, however, opened fire, killing head constable Haji Haleem and constable Zar Ali on the spot.

When the police party returned fire two proclaimed offenders, Abdur Rehman and Mohammad Akram, sustained injuries and died on the spot.

Another person Imran Baloch, resident of Kot Sultan, district Layya, received bullet injuries in the encounter. Later, the proclaimed offenders fled the scene.

The police later found one Kalashnikov, seven magazines, 161 cartridges and a dagger on one of the proclaimed offender’s body. A case has been registered with the Yarak police station.

Meanwhile, funeral prayers of the dead policemen were offered at the Ejaz Shaheed Langaryal police lines here on Sunday.

The funeral was attended by high-ranking police and district administration officials, DIG Kohat Range, police jawans and a large number of people.
