RAWALPINDI, Dec 4: The Ehtesab Bench of Lahore High Court has dismissed the appeal of former inspector general of police, Punjab, Mian Muhammad Amin against the judgment of accountability court, Rawalpindi. An accountability court here had declared Mian Amin as proclaimed offender and awarded him three-year sentence last month.

The process server, Assistant Sub-Inspector of Margalla Police station, Sharifullah Khattak, in his report, had stated before the AC that the accused was absconding from the country.

The process server said that he had visited the Islamabad residence of the accused where he had affixed the proclamation issued by the court. He said the servants working at the residence told him that Amin was in the US.

Earlier, the court had issued proclamation under Section 87 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) after repeated arrest warrant. Former IG Mian Amin who had also served as Director General of Federal Investigating Agency (FIA), and managing director of National Police Foundation (NPF), Islamabad was wanted by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on charges of owning properties in different sectors of the capital beyond his known source of income. According to the prosecution, the accused had accumulated assets worth Rs 145.8 million against his legitimate total income of Rs 1.2 million.

The reference alleged that the accused in his capacity as the IG Punjab, had accumulated assets through misuse of authority and corrupt practices during 1988 to 1999. The reference said that Amin owned six commercial plots and 20 residential lots in IBECHS Islamabad and four plots in E-11 Housing Scheme, NPF, Islamabad in the name of his son, Usman Amin.

Besides, the accused also owned 11 plots in E-11 Housing Sector, Islamabad and one plot in NPF Housing Scheme, in the name of his wife, and house on Double Road, F-10/3, in the name of his son, Usman Amin.

The accused also had different bank accounts with foreign currency.—APP
