QUETTA, April 5: At least 13 tribesmen, including six women, were killed and 15 others injured in a gun-battle between two factions of the Bugti tribe in Lanjo Saghari area along the Sindh-Balochistan border on Saturday.

According to reports reaching Quetta, Qalandrani and Chakrani clans of the Bugti tribe fought a pitched battle, using rockets, machine guns and mortars.

Sources said 13 people from both the sides were killed in the day-long fight. The six women who also lost their lives had been caught in the crossfire as they tried to stop the clash in keeping with the tribal custom.

Of the 15 injured, six were women and five children. All the injured were rushed to Dera Murad and Jacobabad hospitals for treatment.

Balochistan’s home secretary said that the incident took place in Sindh’s jurisdiction.

Reports said the exchange of gunfire was continuing till late in the evening, with rivals refusing to vacate their positions.

Of the 13 dead, seven were identified as Pyaro, Shero, Mohammad Murad, Bachal, Munshi, Mohammad Ali and Niaz Mohammad.

SUKKUR: Chakar Khan Chakrani, one of the most wanted outlaws, was also among those killed in the clash, believed to be the outcome of an old dispute.
