LAHORE, April 5: Mohtarma Mehmooda Begum, widow of Maulana Abul Alla Maudoodi, Islamic scholar and founder of the Jamaat-i-Islami, was laid to rest near the grave of her husband at 5-A, Zaildar Park, Ichhra, on Saturday.

Her funeral was attended by a large number of people belonging to all walks of life, including leaders of different political and religious parties, journalists, doctors and workers of the JI.

JI chief Qazi Husain Ahmed led the funeral prayers.

Mohtarma Mehmooda Begum, who died here on Friday night of asthma, was 90 and had married Maulana Maudoodi in 1937.

Briefly speaking at her funeral, JI chief paid rich tribute to her for her services for the promotion of teachings of Islam.—APP
