MIRPURKHAS, April 3: The district council, Mirpurkhas, has rejected schemes worth Rs21 million prepared for the Citizens Community Board amidst protest by the council members here on Thursday.
The members demanded of the government to provide all the relevant information about funds, made available under the Citizens Community Board.
The members complained that the district government officials did not take the majority of Nazims of the union councils into confidence for the proposed schemes.
Convener Nawab Younus Talpur observed that the funds for these schemes would lapse if they were not completed by the end of June 2003.
The schemes were presented before the session of the district council to seek its approval.
Two members, Choudhry Iftikhar Arain and Mirza Masroor Baig, informed the session that funds of federal and district governments were available for development of playgrounds and they should be utilized soon for the welfare of the youth.
Two other members, Zaheer Ahmed and Lal Malhi, pointed out that land mafias were occupying graveyards, and added that the district government should order purchase of land for graveyards and construct their boundary walls.
FUNDS: The payment of benevolent funds could not be ensured for retired employees as only 9 per cent of funds under this head were released for the district by the provincial finance department which was in sharp contrast to the required demands for this purpose.
Sources said that thousands of retired government employees were waiting for release of funds under the said head so that they could get their dues. But the required amount was not released.
A retired employee, Syed Jafar Shah, said that the government should provide funds as per requirement to enable the retired employees to get their arrears. He added that under the circumstances, only nominal amount could be obtained by the teachers.
