Rs1.24bn for gas to Sialkot EPZ

SIALKOT, Dec 3: The federal government has sanctioned Rs1.24 billion for the provision of gas facility to the Sialkot export processing zone (EPZ).

Talking to newsmen here on Monday, Sialkot district Nazim Mian Naeem Javaid said that work on laying gas pipelines for the purpose was already in progress.

He said efforts were also being made for the improvement and early provision of basic facilities in health and education sectors.

The district government had chalked out a comprehensive plan for the implementation of public welfare projects in urban and rural areas of the Sialkot district with an expenditure of Rs170 million, he said.

“We have approached the Punjab governor for the early filling of 2,500 vacant posts of teachers in the Sialkot district’s educational institutions”, he added.

SECURITY PLAN: The Sialkot district police have taken a foolproof security measures to avert any untoward incident on the eve of Eid.

This was stated by SSP Muhammad Tahir while talking to newsmen here on Monday.

He said the police had tightened the security around mosques, madaris, imambargahs, churches, and all important public places.

He also sought the public cooperation in combating the menace of terrorism.

DEO: Office of the Sialkot district education officer (DEO), colleges, was set up some five months ago, but the government has yet not allocated any budget to it.

There are 75 educational institutions under the DEO and it has become an uphill task for the DEO to undertake the survey of colleges in the absence of any conveyance.
