KARACHI, April 2: Landhi remained tense, and commercial activities remained suspended on Wednesday in the area in the wake of the custodial death of an activist of the Mohajir Qaumi Movement.

Angry youths pelted moving vehicles with stones and set a minibus on fire. Fire brigade sources said fire tenders reached the spot and saved the vehicle from being completely destroyed. Police have intensified patrolling in the area.

Tension also gripped some parts of Saudabad where routine life remained disturbed. Police patrolling in the disturbed areas have been increased.

The MQM-H activist, Saleemuddin, was picked up by the Landhi police on Tuesday morning. They allegedly tortured him to death. His body was first shifted to the JPMC for the postmortem examination, and later it was moved to the Civil Hospital by police for unknown reasons.

Due to the absence of the area judicial magistrate, the autopsy could not be carried out. Later, the family of the deceased refused to get the postmortem conducted and took away the body.
