HARIPUR, April 1: The Nazim and Naib-Nazim of Kot Najibullah union council were disqualified, while the runners-up to the same offices were declared successful by the Election Tribunal, Abbotabad, on Monday.

Sardar Mohammad Haroon, younger brother of Pakistan Muslim League-N former MPA Sardar Mushtaq, was elected Nazim of the said union council,  along with Prof Mohammad Din as Naib-Nazim, in the July 2001, local bodies’ polls, while Syed Nazran Shah and Sardar Mazar Elahi contested the polls for the same offices and were the runners-up. 

The runner-up panel moved to the tribunal contending that Sardar Haroon did not qualify for contesting the elections because he had not completed the compulsory period after retirement from government service under the services laws, as he was a former employee of the Hazara Phosphate, Haripur, pleading for disqualification of the winning panel. 

The tribunal, headed by the Session Judge, Musadaq Geelani, after hearing both sides, in its decision declared Sardar Haroon’s panel as disqualified and declared the appellants successful for the offices concerned.
