Two policemen arrested

NAWABSHAH, March 29: The DPO, Dr Ghulam Sarwar, on Saturday suspended the SHO of the A-section police station, Hamid Jalbani, the official in charge of the police post, Arshad Arain, and two head constables, Raja Waseem and Shakeel Shah, following the custodial death of a man, Zahid Qureshi, at a police post.

Mr Qureshi had died of a heart attack while in the custody of the police at a police post in the jurisdiction of the A-section police.

An FIR was lodged by Ms Razia, wife of the deceased under Sections 302, 147, 148, 342 PPC late Friday night.

The police have arrested the two head constables nominated in FIR but two other persons, Urs Lund and Mohammad Yousuf, managed to escape.

Meanwhile, the A-section police have lodged another FIR under Sections 324, 353, 341, 495, 436, 147 PPC against protesters for damaging government properties, including a police van (SP- 5089).

The DPO later told this correspondent that the police post would soon be relocated at some other suitable place and the police was trying to control the situation.

PROTEST: Over 100 activists of the Najia Students Federation on Saturday took out a protest rally here to press the authorities for the arrest of murderers of Ali Mardan Chandio, field manager of the Dargah Lowari Sharif.

The rally began from the Old Naka and terminated at the local press club.
