PESHAWAR, March 26: NWFP Chief Minister Mohammad Akram Khan Durrani on Wednesday said his government would take care of the interests of the teachers and students.
Talking to university teachers who staged a protest demonstration in front of Chief Minister’s House to express their anger over the proposed Model Universities Ordinance (MUO), he said he would soon discuss the ordinance with their representatives and seek a solution to the problem.
He said the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal government had announced that school education would be free and it was planning to give more concessions to the students.
Peshawar University Teachers Association President Arbab Khan Afridi, Siddique Akbar of Engineering University Teachers Association, Shah Khan of Agriculture University Teachers Association and Shaukat Ali of University Schools Teachers Association spoke to the protesters.
They opposed the ordinance and termed it against the students and teachers. They alleged that it was being implemented at the behest of the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund.
They vowed that the teachers would not allow the implementation of the ordinance, because it would play havoc with the education system.
