KARACHI, March 26: Karachi Nazim Naimatullah Khan has said that work on the rehabilitation of people affected by the Lyari Expressway project and provision of basic facilities to them is being done fast.

He was speaking on the occasion of handing over of allotment orders of plots of 80 square yards with a cheque for Rs50,000 to each of the 200 families being shifted from the Expressway project.

Speaking on the occasion, the Nazim said it was for the first time that in a rehabilitation project, shifted people were being given plots and cash at the government level.

He told the allottees that they were now legal owners of the houses and the city government’s effort would be to ensure that they did not face any problem in their rehabilitation.

Project Director Shafiqur Rehman Paracha also spoke on the occasion and said speedy work continued on the provision of basic facilities to them.

Later, the Nazim handed over allotments orders and cheques to about 200 shifting families.

HOUSING PROBLEMS: A committee, comprising representatives of the KBCA, KWSB, builders, and the city government has been formed to examine problems being faced by the people regarding housing.

This was decided at a meeting presided over by City Nazim Naimatullah Khan to review the National Housing Policy here on Wednesday in the office of the Board of Investment.

The meeting was attended by representatives of local as well as foreign banks, the KBCA, ABAD, DHA, and district government, Board of Revenue.

The meeting appreciated the recently introduced schemes of the banks for customers to build houses. Next meeting of the committee will be held after two weeks. — APP
