LAHORE, March 24: Sargodha and Lahore qualified for the national junior hockey championship main round after winning their last pool matches of the qualifying round at the National Hockey Stadium (NHS) on Monday.

Sargodha, who needed to win by a margin of five goals in order to qualify defeated Swat 6-1 thanks to four goals by Kashif.

Sargodha’s win ended Gujranwala’s hopes of qualifying.

Kashif converted three penalty-strokes while the third goal was a field goal.

He converted the first stroke in the 4th minute. Ansar doubled the lead 2-0 in the 25th minute by converting a penalty-corner.

Arif made it 3-0 in the 28th minute through a field goal.

Swat struck their solitary goal a minute before half time, through Samiullah which made it 3-1.

After half time, Kashif went on the rampage converting a second penalty-stroke in the 43rd minute.

A minute later, he struck a field goal and then completed the hat trick by converting another penalty-stroke in the 54th minute to seal the fate of the match.

Lahore who needed either a draw or win to enter the next round, trounced Hyderabad 5-1 after taking 3-0 lead at the interval.

Zubair and Zulifqar scored two goals each for the winners. while Hafezullah scored one goal.

The only goal of the losers was scored by Kamran.

The main round starts at Faisalabad from April 4.

APP adds: Multan and Karachi “A” secured a berths in the final rounds of National Under-19 Hockey Championship after victories in the preliminary rounds .

In the opening match Karachi “A” got a walkover against Naseerabad which failed to turn up in the event.

Multan came from behind to defeat Bahawalpur 4-1 after leading 3-1 at half time. Muhammad Siddique two goals off penalty corners. Muhammad Bilal Umer slammed one goal with direct penalty corner strike while right-in Owais Ahmed scored through field effort.

Centre forward Nisar Aslam gave Bahawalpur a stunning start when he scored ther opener in 17th minute.

But Multan staged a grand really and slammed three goals in next 11 minutes to take control of the match. Siddique draw level for Multan by scoring on indirect penalty effort.

Six minute before the breather Muhammad Bilal made it 2-1 and seconds before half time Siddique added another one.

Oavis Sultan completed the tally in 42nd minute of the second half.

Today’s fixtures: Karachi “A” v Multan 3.30 p.m.

Meanwhile, Rawalpindi, Mardan, Faisalabad registered victories against their respective rivals.

Rawalpindi defeated Kohat 1-0. Inside-left Malik Adnan grabbed the match decider in the dying moements of the clash.

In the second match Mardan beat AJK 3-0. Centre forward Imran Ullah, inside right Fawad and Alamgir scored scored the goals for the winners who led 2-0 at the breather.

Faisalabad overcame Hazara 2-0 with goals coming from captain Munazim in the first half and Inayat Ullah after the interval.—APP
