Protests against Khipro rape

UMERKOT, Oct 7 A complete strike was observed in Umerkot on Thursday on a call given by the Jeay Sindh Qaumi Mahaz and Sindh Taraqqi Pasand Party to voice protest against gang-rape of a school girl in Khipro.

Chieftain of Bhayo community told journalists that he and his community were not satisfied with the investigation. The victim girl did not hide her ordeal from her family who supported her and a case was registered, otherwise the gang could never have been caught, he said.

He said the accused boys were being supported by an ethnic party who were given shelter and support by sons of Sindh when they migrated to Pakistan.

He urged all saner elements of the province to support victims of violence who were afraid of raising voice against such atrocities and thus the offenders were encouraged to continue their evil activities.

He said that they were waiting for justice to be done to the victim girl and if the system failed to giver her justice they would decide with Kalashnikov.

Our Bureau adds Several students and social welfare organizations staged protest demonstrations and hunger strike outside the press club here on Thursday against the gang rape of a female student of Khipro. They demanded immediate arrest of culprits.

The activists of Sindhi Girls Students Tahreek (Awami Tahreek) staged a token hunger strike outside the press club. The central president of the organization, Dr Sindhu Manganhar, Central President of the organization and others including Shaheen Khaskheli and Musarrat Birhamani condemned the increasing incidents of rapes and karo-kari in Sindh.

Activists of Marvi Samaji Taraqiati Tanzeem and female students of Khipro College also staged protest demonstration against the gang rape of a poor female student.
