ISLAMABAD, March 23: A special committee constituted by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to review the national team’s disappointing performance in the World Cup has completed its job.

The committee’s chief Naushad Ali told Dawn that he will be submitting what he said were “recommendations” to the PCB boss Lt Gen Tauqir Zia on Monday.

“Ours was not an inquiry committee,” he made it clear.

Naushad wouldn’t say what those recommendations were and if at all these would be made public. “It is up to the PCB now what it does.”

The committee, that also had Aaqib Javed and Sultan Rana as members interviewed about “six or seven” players including captain Waqar Younis, Wasim Akram, Yousuf Youhana, Saqlain Mushtaq and Inzamam-ul-Haq.

Also interviewed were a number of PCB officials, team manager Shaharyar Khan, doctor and analyst while coach Richard Pybus was spoken to on phone.

Naushad said that it was a tedious job and ever since the committee began functioning on March 8, they have had to work long hours. “But I am happy that we have completed the task assigned to us.”

Besides reviewing the performance, the committee’s terms of reference also included recommending penalties on those found responsible for the debacle.

Defeats at the hands of Australia, England and India saw Pakistan fail to qualify for the Super Six stage that had led to widespread criticism.
