FAISALABAD, March 23: The provincial government has constituted a three-member committee for conducting a ‘comprehensive survey’ of all the highways for repair and relaying.

The committee has been constituted by Communication and Works Minister Zaheeruddin Khan following complaints that a majority of the highways, having a length of over 8,000kms, were in dilapidated condition.

The committee has also been directed to monitor the performance of the Highway officials and whosoever found guilty in delaying the repair and maintenance work be recommended for proceedings (against him) under the Removal of Civil Servants Ordinance, 2000. The committee is headed by Director, Planning and Design, Punjab Highways, while the managers of Road Management Unit and Road Service Unit are its members. The committee has been directed to submit its findings within a fortnight

FARMERS: The Farmers Association, Faisalabad, has urged the federal government to announce a relief package of incentives for the growers of cash crops in the light of escalating prices of petroleum products and gas and electricity rates.

FAF chief Mian Tahir Saeed, in a statement here on Sunday, pointed out that farming was no more profitable due to increase in POL prices and other costly inputs.
