MULTAN, March 20: The officers appointed to inquire into the Mahmoodkot police ‘encounter’ will record statements of the families of the deceased ‘outlaws’ on the spot today (Friday).

The Punjab police chief has appointed SSP Dr Arif Mushtaq to probe the allegation of deceased Shahid Chandia and Muhammad Akram’s families that they were killed in cold blood by Mahmoodkot police station SHO Azmatullah Gurmani.

Besides, the Muzaffargarh district and sessions judge has also deputed Civil Judge Yasir Nadeem to inquire into the matter. The judge was initially holding the inquiry in his court at Kot Addu tehsil while the SSP initiated his investigations at a higher secondary school in front of the police station.

It is learnt that the inquiry officers personally visited the site of ‘encounter.’ SSP Arif Mushtaq paid a surprise visit to the area and talked to Shahid’s mother Naseem Khatoon. He assured the locals that they would be given protection, if they recorded statements against the relevant police.

ELECTION SCHEDULE: The Bahauddin Zakariya University announced on Thursday schedule for the election for four syndicate seats reserved for teachers.

According to a press release, the election will be held on May 26, 2003. The final list of the university teachers will be displayed on April 11 while the last date for the submission of nomination papers is April 26.

Each tier of the teaching faculty — professor, associate professor, assistant professor and lecturer — has one seat. The elected will serve for three years.

The BZU registrar Khursheed Ahmad Khan will be the returning officer.

RESULTS: The BZU has declared the result of MA Political Science, first annual examination, 2002, on Thursday.

As many as 265 candidates appeared in the examination. of them, some 162 were declared successful with a percentage of 72.22.

Among the successful candidates, six secured first division, 168 second and eight candidates secured third.
